Climate Ready Stories | Desperately seeking snow gums in Macedon
The Australian snow gum is a symbol of resilience - an iconic species that’s withstood ice ages and some of the harshest conditions Australia has to offer. Yet it’s also fragile, vulnerable to climate impacts, and this is driving snow gums towards extinction in some areas.
Tanya Loos is determined this is not going to happen in the Macedon Rangers shire - a longstanding refuge for low lying snow gum populations. A field naturalist and biodiversity project officer for local council, Tanya walks us through the Snow Gum Project - an adaptation project which draws together community groups, council and local expertise to address current and future threats to biodiversity.
