Climate Ready Stories | That cool place in Elphinstone

Elphinstone, like many small towns in central Victoria, faces the road and has its back to the creek that runs through its centre. After years of being ignored, the creek has gone wild and is now overrun by gorse and blackberry.

Sam Downing is a local landscape architect determined to turn the situation around - to reconnect the community and the creek. She’s leading Elphinstone Cool Places, a climate adaptation project to transform a an old bluestone tunnel where the creek passes through, into a biodiverse refuge and community cooling place.
